Work/Life balance matters.

I remember 'Graeme Edwards' quote “It’s not the plan that is important, it’s the planning.”

I have been thinking a lot about career growth lately, and as a Team Lead or better called as a Team player, have been generally concerned with making sure there are growth opportunities, regardless of the level or the point in the career.

This often put me in the place of silence. Because, I knew from where I started my career (my close buddies know about this and me) and how I travelled, the pain, the fire, the lonely roads(though many ppl to recall but only a few like me walked jobless) but how I am now and where I am now everything gives me the chance to ask me a lot of "????'s'".

As a matter of fact, for most of my career, I never had anyone watching out for me of guide me. For the first part of my career, I don’t even think much about my long-term career because of the darkness (which I was travelling). It just happen into new opportunities that taught me new skills and kept me growing everyday. But there was no plan, no goal other than 'To be asked to work diligently'.

The point in the bigger picture, no one is going to look after your career for you, but you.

I heard that I am not scoring but I knew my direction is right on track. I dream a lot that dream gave me the courage to face the world. When I stop, turn left and right 'NO' there was no one walking with me but my mumma standing there to watch me with tears filled eyes to see her baby taste the 'Success'.

After I was done, I realized that most of what I put down for a five-year plan could be done in a year. But it took me write down the notes and see to make it happen. This was also a good tool for working with my boss/manager/godfather (a couple of my motivators Mr.Krishna Prasath.P, Mr.Balaji (VCann), Mr.Ramesh (Shiva Steels)and Mr.Herald J George) to recall to craft training and work opportunities for me to meet my goals. I also made sure that these goals included in life are personal goals as well as career goals. The older I get the more I realize that these are intertwined and success in one space brings success to others. Work/Life balance matters.

In an effort to make this anecdote meaningful to you, I’d like to share the steps and some resources I used to help me prepare my five-year goals.

The Template:

1. Your Name
2. Today’s Date
This is important as you reflect back on this document. This will become a touchstone for your growth and a reminder of who you were as you look back at what was important to you in this point in time.
3. 3–6 Months
* Start small.
* Think about short-term goals that are easily achieved but will also help move you towards the longer-term goals.
* Include some tangible goals.
4. 6–12 Months
* Start thinking bigger here—this is planning for a year out.
* What new skills do you want to learn?
* What new ideas do you want to share with others?
* What changes do you want to make? Put them down here along with the steps needed to take to make them happen.
5. Beyond 12 Months
* Capture specific plans that you know may take more than a year to get to or accomplish. For me, it was to work on Multiple platform.
* Be realistic but not afraid to reach. Visualize success in areas you may have little control over. Don’t be afraid to write down a desired goal that may be a stretch.
6. Longer-term Goals
* This is the area to think out for the next 3–5 years, including life beyond the company or situation you are currently in. For me, I listed “My Business Dreams” as a goal. This reminds me that I want to do this and I need to make certain decisions and changes in order to make it happen.

If I decide at a later time, that I don’t really want to do this, I should remove it off the plan.
7. Opportunities to Explore at Your Company
* List all the training and coaching opportunities relevant and currently available at your company.
* Note relationships that need to be cultivated at your company in order to meet success.

Note: This obviously may not apply if you are an independent consultant. Think about other opportunities that might be available through professional associations and networking instead.
8. Skills to Develop
* Project what skills you need to develop to reach the goals you listed in the first part of this exercise.
* What other skills do you need, besides the ones you have now, to attain your goal?

Since I am a Team Lead or better called as a Team player and this is the area in which I have been growing, I listed things such as Confidence and Effectiveness—along with ideas on how to master these more intangible skills.

Over the last couple of years, I have purposely put myself into situations to gain confidence—especially when giving presentations. Think about starting slow and building on your successes.
In addition, I also listed skills of associated/allied roles that I would like to learn in order to make myself a more well-rounded and effective manager in my company.
9. What I Care About in a Work Environment
* This may seem frivolous or not important to the task at hand, but it serves to remind you of the values you need to share with the company you work for. As you grow or the company changes this can help guide you when you need to make a change.
10. Personal Goals
* Don’t forget the personal goals that you need to weave into your life. It never hurts to write these down as a reminder of work/life balance and of the things that are really important to you as a person.

Unending love

This is one of the most beautiful poem which I have ever read in my life.

I seem to have loved you in numberless forms, numberless times,
In life after life, in age after age forever.
My spell-bound heart has made and re-made the necklace of songs
That you take as a gift, wear round your neck in your many forms
In life after life, in age after age forever.

Whenever I hear old chronicles of love, its age-old pain,
Its ancient tale of being apart or together,
As I stare on and on into the past, in the end you emerge
Clad in the light of a pole-star piercing the darkness of time:
You become an image of what is remembered forever.

You and I have floated here on the stream that brings from the fount
At the heart of time love of one for another.
We have played alongside millions of lovers, shared in the same
Shy sweetness of meeting, the same distressful tears of farewell-
Old love, but in shapes that renew and renew forever.

Today it is heaped at your feet, it has found its end in you,
The love of all man's days both past and forever:
Universal joy, universal sorrow, universal life,
The memories of all loves merging with this one love of ours-
And the songs of every poet past and forever.

Candlelight Dinner

You cannot just dream of having a candle light dinner all of a sudden. You have to decide before hand and think of it before making it happen. This is what I hear from all the 4 direction (East, West, North and South). According to me that isn't true :-) Today, I really had a nice dinner with my friend (P.S. not a girl). But with my mama Sathish.

We had a sunny day but later warmed up by traveling in 70 to office for shift. Evening we had 'Cappuccino Coffee' from the opposite Cafe day (hehehe) and then comes this 'Candlelight Dinner'. This is not a preplanned one. We had a plan to go for a break together and that too for dinner to fill something. I drove Viki's RX towards Maruthamalai and on the left side comes this star hotel "Hotel 7 Star".

Wow, wow wow the traditional motel type star hotel with the brownish-black design everywhere (that's because of the Lignite they use for cooking ;-)) Fortunately or unfortunately there is no power so no other go apart from saying OK to the hi-fi (techie guys not Wi-fi LOLz) 'Candlelight'.

Overall it was a cool dinner with my chilly friend "Mathura mathura than" :-) Mama, cheer up!

Mission

A big challenge in building a creative company is learning how to bring fresh input into your daily business life. Finding ways to continually broaden your perspective and find inspiration is one of the most basic creative skills.

Seeking new input is too important to leave to chance encounters. To help you step out of status-quo thinking, you must do the following: 1. Commit to the importance of a continual flow of new input.

2. Cultivate a curious mind that continually asks "I wonder what would happen if...?"

3. Find new sources of input.

Once you accomplish the first two, almost any environment or conversation can spark new thoughts. These simple ideas can get you started: * Go to events where you'll meet people outside your usual sphere--people from different industries or from other countries, or people who have interests different from yours. Unlike a networking event, you are prospecting for new ideas, not new contacts. Of course, you might also leave with some promising business cards.

* Go to places you don't usually go. If you're looking for innovative ideas for a store display, check out places that sell something you don't and that have a completely different customer demographic.

How one store sells sports equipment may give you an idea about how you should sell your bakery goods. Trying the unconventional is a proven way to get your customers' attention.

* Read a book or magazine that introduces you to a new industry, hobby, place or interest. For example, if you have a contracting or interior design business, looking at a book on animal habitats may be the catalyst for an innovative solution. Specialty catalogs, coffee-table books and even greeting cards are rich in images and words that may inspire you--often, the more unusual, the better.

* Seek input from people within your company who don't usually get a chance to share their ideas.

* Let yourself follow a hunch or whimsy, and see what it teaches you. Remember, inspiration is not tied to the practical or feasible. You may want to begin carrying a small notebook or create a file in your PDA to record any new ideas or creative thoughts. Once you're in the habit of being open to receiving ideas, they'll start flooding in anytime and at anyplace.

The composed climate with tears sloping downward from the sky (almost everywhere until my vision goes on). Now its 7.24 PM (9th Sep '07). Its been a long time since I remember ma first love. But I can't forget that. The craziness is not just because of the craze but "appropriately passionate".

I still remember ma childhood days sitting in the "Thinnai" (I don't know the exact word in English) thinking that I am driving the "Bike". Then a small stool (A backless and armless single seat supported on legs or a pedestal) with my father's old Ind-Suzuki keys tied with a piece of vest cloth.

When my 'Nannatha' (granpa (a) nana) asked "What do you want da kanna?" I replied him I badly need a "Durra" (bike lolz). My lovable 'Nannatha' still remembers that :-) So how can I forget "Ma very first love" haan? That's none other than ma bike 'Suzuki Max 100'. Well well, now I am really focussed to drive a 4 wheeler for me n ma family. A dream of owning one for me :-) I really want to give them comfort all the time. Making them smile smile and smile. A comfortable old age to my gold grandparents.

Wish me good luck!

If I ever get an opportunity to born again....

would it be possible to born on her eyes?
Would it be possible to drop into her cheeks?
Would it be possible to die on her lips?

Nightmare

Heya howdy doody guys n gals?

This is not a post about how I have not written in this blog for a while. Instead its about what I have been doing. Lots?! No, I have been suffering a lot. As said by Mother Teresa "There is much suffering in the world - physical, material, mental".

I can feel this at the right time or at the imprecise minutes??! Well well, in the human race it is an acceptable truth to face dark and the bright! In the recent past I have seen incredible things which I haven't even dreamt of in my life! But I remember one of my colleague writes in the first page of his notebook "Expect the unexpected". Thanks to Arun.

The pain, the loneliness, the disappointment, the emotional disorder, the injury, the angry, the hurt, the tears, the Clamor, the silence, the yelling, finally now I am keeping up a very low profile.

"You are not the same Hasan is what I hear from my loved one's". Yes, I knew that I am not the same Hasan but I cannot or I will not continue this Hasan anymore. It may take a little time to come back with full spirit. But nothing is impossible, always 'I'm possible'. Come on Mr.H, you can definitely come out from all the -ve's is what I speak to myself.

Truth is the cry of all, but the game of the few. Yes, the game of an unpleasant feelings is getting out slowly and I will definitely bounce back. I am going to taste/feel the success for sure. Because I am BORN TO WIN!

Facing her own heart!

Jennifer Sutton 23, recently visited her own heart at an exhibition in London. Jenni received a heart transplant and her original ticker is on display as part of the Welcome Collection's educational exhibition.

"Seeing my heart for the first time is an emotional and surreal experience. It caused me so much pain and turmoil when it was inside me. Seeing it sitting here is extremely bizarre and very strange. Finally I can see this odd looking lump of muscle that has given me so much upset. It's tremendous it has become an object of fascination and will get people thinking about the disease, heart transplants and organ donation."
