West Indies Captain Lara announced retirement in the news conference following his team's 99-run victory over Bangladesh. It was an emotional statement "I've given this extensive consideration (17 yrs) and on Saturday I will be bidding farewell to international cricket as a player,".
He is one of the finest player in the globe and holds two of the most prestigious World Records for batting in Tests: highest individual innings (400 not out) and the all-time leading run scorer. He also holds the record for the highest individual score in first class cricket, with a total of 501 (not out) for Warwickshire against Durham at Edgbaston in 1994.
"This Saturday will be my last match in international cricket," said Lara. Ramnaresh Sarwan may lead Indies in future. Undoubtedly, he is a legend of cricket and a role model for many youngsters. We wish the legend a great personal life and we expect him to create young guns to the field.
